MANIFESTO

WE ABSTRACT, WE TRANSCODE, WE MAP AND INTERPRET. WE ALL DO IT, ALL THE TIME.

WITH LANGUAGE, WORDS, ALPHABETS AND SOUNDS; WITH SIGNS, IMAGES, METAPHORS AND MAPS; WITH BODIES, FROWNS, SMILES AND SILENCE; STATS AND DATA; CLASS AND GENDER; RODS AND CONES, DNA AND GENES; BITS AND PIXELS; PEN AND PAPER; PAINT AND CANVAS.

FOR ME, LIVING AND WORKING THROUGH ART IS THE ONLY THOROUGH, DIVERSE AND POETIC ENOUGH MEANS BY WHICH I CAN FILL THE VOID BETWEEN MYSELF AND THE REST OF THE WORLD.

PLACES, CULTURES AND LANGUAGES ENGRAINED AND NURTURE IN MY WORK AN INSATIABLE CURIOSITY FOR THE VASTNESS OF THE WORLD, A FASCINATION FOR THE POWERS AND POLITICS OF MAPS, AN UTMOST RESPECT FOR THE INTRINSIC VALUE OF TIME AND EXPERIENCE, AN HONEST OBLIGATION TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE LIMITS OF PERCEPTION AND AN URGENT NEED TO RECOGNIZE THE BIAS AND SUBJECTIVITY OF EVERYTHING.

THESE PRINCIPLES PERMEATE ALL MY PRACTICE: FROM A MYRIAD OF MAP-MAKING WORKS TO HAND-MADE BOOKS, PAPER OR PAINTINGS AND ENDURING TIME-BASED PROJECTS.
