NEW WORLDS, started 2024
Crafted from newspapers and news clippings, New Worlds blends medias of opposing political views into sheets of paper, in turn folded into maps. Somewhere between an act of reconciliation and a tabula rasa, the maps remain sealed and illegible. And yet there is no way forward that doesn’t include both narratives. In this brutally artisanal process which sometimes catches a few leaves and herbs from the outdoors where the paper was molded, the rips and tears of the newly fused map mirror the discomfort—if not violence—that it takes to reunite opposing worldviews. The question is: may we now, when the map is stubbornly blank, when we have less direction, less tools, less certainty, perhaps finally learn to better see and listen to one another?
